National Basketball Association Capsules for Thursday.
NEW ORLEANS 105, DENVER 101

DENVER James Poseys 3-pointer with 19 seconds left lifted the New Orleans Hornets to a 105-101 victory over the Denver Nuggets.

With the Hornets clinging to a four-point lead with 40 seconds remaining, Carmelo Anthony was fouled by Posey while attempting a 3-pointer. Anthony hit the first two free throws before missing the third.

Nene grabbed the offensive rebound and passed to Anthony, whose dunk tied the score, 98-98.

Posey, who finished with seven points, wasted no time responding, drilling a three from the right wing to give the Hornets a 101-98 advantage.

Chauncey Billups missed a three on the ensuing possession and Peja Stojakovic and Chris Paul each hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

ORLANDO 105, WASHINGTON 90

WASHINGTON Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic had little trouble with the Washington Wizards, taking control early and cruising to a 105-90 victory.

The All-Star center collected 26 points and 14 boards as Orlando won its third straight. Howard scored six points in the first two minutes of play as the Magic stormed ahead. They put it into cruise control at the end of the quarter, as Rashard Lewis, J.J. Redick and Courtney Lee each buried 3-pointers to help open up a 15-point lead.

It was smooth sailing for most of the night. The Wizards – who earned just their second win of the season on Tuesday in new head coach Ed Tapscotts debut – fell back to earth. They went just 3-for-17 from the arc and had no answer for Howard, who went 8-for-12 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Hedo Turkoglu chipped in with 20 points and 10 boards for Orlando, while Lewis and Mickael Pietrus added 17 apiece.

Washington was led by Caron Butlers 25-point effort. Antawn Jamison scored 17 and grabbed 12 rebounds.
